Nature's Thought reader – a biography of H.C. Ørsted

Dan Ch. Christensen will share his great work on the biography of H.C. Ørsted.

Hans Christian Ørsted (1777-1851) became an important scientist and thinks far beyond the boundaries of Denmark and his own time. Internationally, he stood at the centre of a network that laid the foundations for the world image of modern physics. However, he was also one of the Danish gold age-leading cultural personalities and had a decisive influence in areas such as aesthetics, philosophy, pedagogy, politics and religion, among others. As editor, long-standing secretary of the Science company and co-founder and director of Polytechnical College.

The thought reader of Nature is the first overall depiction of Hans Christian Ørsted's Life and richly faceted work, which not only brings the reader into his scientific universe, but also, in an easy-to-understand language, tells the story of Hans Christian Ørsted's path from pharmacist son in Rudkøbing, as a young student, made up the established scientific theories and reached a new and dynamic nature vision that led to his pioneering discovery of electromagnetism, which his opponents claimed could not Exist.

The book is based on a large source material, including Ørsted's extensive correspondence with family and colleagues, political relations and contemporary personalities, and holds more than three hundred illustrations.

Author of numerous books and articles of science, technology and ideas history and the book shot down on the fate of seven RAF pilots during the occupation.
